Our story

Children playing in a school playground

Young people told us that they want somewhere safe and friendly to go at break times or lunchtimes. They wanted:

  • somewhere to go and relax
  • somewhere quiet and calm
  • somewhere where they did not feel anxious
  • somewhere where there was someone to talk to or to listen to them.

They wanted to be with other young people ‘just like me’ – and they liked to know adults were around in case they needed help.

Some schools and colleges had ‘special places’ for young people to go – or things for them to do - but some did not.

We suggest:

  • Schools and colleges should make safe places for young people to use or things for them to do when they need them.
